OPERA

This district, build around the distinctive Palais Garnier Opera-House, which was a central monument in Architect Haussmans town planning in the 19th century, and with its long avenue stretching down to Palais Royal, it’s not only famous for its luxury epicure and fashion boutiques around Place Vendôme and Place de la Madeleine but also for the Big Department Stores; Galleries Lafayette and Printemps. In the Palais Royal garden you can window shop in strange old boutiques selling medals or lead soldiers or just sit down and relax under the arcades in the garden. Also explore Place de la Victoire with the latest in fashion and Rue des petits champs with several of the famous indoor passages.

The boulevards are busy throughout the day with shoppers or business men and in the end of the day people meet in the Big Boulevards (Les Grands Boulevards) to eat or to go to one of many cinemas; the Grand Rex-cinema is situated here. If you continue walking you will reach Bld Poissonnière, Bld Bonne Nouvelle, Bld St Denis with its small arc of Triomph "la Porte St Denis" built in 1672 and you will end at Bld St Martin  which leads to Place de la République.
