The Latin Quarter, on the famous and bellowed Left Bank, has kept its name from the Roman époque when the Latins had their soldiers and administrators stationed here. Today, the heart of the Latin Quarters is the Sorbonne University, founded in 1253 and surrounded by small, winding streets and a multitude of cafés and restaurants often to moderate, student prices. Place St. Michel is the central meeting point of the area, and being just as busy during the day time as during the night time, it never sleeps.

Next-street to Latin Quarters is the St Germain des Prés area known for its lovely, small church as well as for its narrow streets, antique shops, restaurants, cafes and Jazz-clubs. Artists and intellectuals frequented this area in the post-war years but it has now turned into one of the most chic areas in Paris and houses all famous fashion labels.
